I recently had my roof replaced and the roofing company cut and shortened my furnace exhaust vent pipe. I was concerned the shortened pipe was no longer meeting code requirements. Before contacting Patrick, at Dynamic Home Inspections, I contacted another home inspection service, who was going to inspect my exhaust vent pipe from the ground, using a drone. I was not comfortable with that method, since the roofers had encased the short vent pipe in a chimney box. When Patrick came to my home he was very pleasant, thorough and professional. He discovered that my vent pipe was too short and that there was no flue cap installed. Patrick explained that the exhaust pipe vents the combustible gases from the furnace and the hot water heater. He said my exhaust pipe should not have been cut and after inspecting inside, he discovered hazardous combustible exhaust gases were backdrafting into my home. This is a clear health and safety concern. Patrick's recommendation was to hire a chimney contractor to remove the chimney box, evaluate and extend the length of the vent pipe to meet code standards, and to allow it to draft properly. Patrick came back to my home to do a follow-up inspection to ensure the chimney contracting work was done properly. If it were not for Patrick's thoroughness, professionalism and exceptional knowledge, I fear this safety concern would not have been found.
